FASHION FROM ABROAD: The Look Of The Irish

Planning to visit any country can be equally as nerve-wrecking as it is exciting. As you look forward to touring exotic places and meeting foreign friends, you first have to finish the dreaded task of packing. It’s a miracle if you remember all the little details AND avoid paying extra for a heavy suitcase.

When I started packing for my study abroad trip to Ireland, I had the hardest time figuring out what clothes to take. Weather in the United Kingdom is notoriously unpredictable, so should I pack shorts or jeans? Tank tops or sweaters? What does Irish style look like?

It wasn’t until I got here that I realized that campus style is similar everywhere. Some rules always apply. When you aren’t sure if the day will be cold and rainy or hot and sunny, pick layers to be best prepared and look stylish.

This Fashionista is wearing a long sleeve T-shirt with a tank top underneath. To combat the dreary day, she added a green army jacket to stow in her bag when it heats up. Distressed jeans are a traveling go-to since they are a versatile pant to pair with different shoes and shirts. As a college student, she says her jeans are a staple for running from class to lunch, and from the library to the pub. She puts a brown leather belt with hers to complement the suede messenger bag thrown over her shoulder.

The style in Ireland ranges from casual daytime, like this look, to dressed up nighttime. United Kingdom companies like Blue Inc. and Chocolate are moderately priced designer companies similar to H&M in our home country. Find accessories at stores like these, similar to the gold watch and black sandals that this Fashionista adds, to complete her Irish look.
