FASHION FROM ABROAD: Scandi Cool

This past January, I was lucky enough to visit Copenhagen during fashion week with my university. I excitedly anticipated stylish Danish beauties, delicious Danish pastries, and worried about the harsh Danish winter weather. I attempted to pack for the weather conditions, however, I realized as soon as we arrived that I had underestimated just how cold it was going to be.

Although, I was correct about just how sharp and sleek Scandinavian style is, it was difficult to find anyone that wasn’t always looking completely on point. Copenhagen street style is known for being very simple but stylish with a cool quirkiness to it, and this was confirmed by the amazing outfits that I saw.

With this in mind, I threw on culottes, a fur coat and a big scarf and entered the Copenhagen Revolver Trade Show. It was impossible to ignore just how magnificent everyone looked, I was in a sea of tall, Scandinavian Fashionistas and surrounded by beautiful clothes. One Fashionista immediately caught my eye, she was simply dressed but her colorful hair and bag were undeniably bright.

I adored this Fashionista’s outfit—I mean look at that sunshine yellow Fjällräven Kånken! Nothing displays Scandi style like a Kanken backpack. This Fashionista wasn’t afraid to wear such a bright color, due to her lovely lilac hair. Style was first on this Fashionista’s list before keeping warm with her grungy ripped jeans. However unlike me, this Fashionista was used to the harsh weather and she didn’t let it phase her. She walked confidently in her Dr. Martens and owned the Copenhagen streets with her grungy, yet simple style.

Just because it’s cold, it doesn’t mean you suddenly have to throw all color out of your wardrobe. This Fashionista has shown me the light! You don’t just have to wear black, buy that bright yellow jumper if you want. Take inspiration from this Danish Fashionista and find the brightest item of clothing you can whether it be a bag, a coat, or a jumper. You never know you might make someone’s day, she certainly made mine brighter.
