FASHION FROM ABROAD: Caribbean Style

Greetings from St. Kitts and Nevis in the West Indies! I have the incredible opportunity to go on the Bucknell in the Caribbean trip where I am taking a three-week long class in Caribbean literature and history. As you can imagine, the islands of St. Kitts and Nevis are nothing short of paradise and the idyllic island beauty provides some serious style inspiration.

This Fashionista has fully embraced her new Caribbean environment with this fun summer ensemble. She pairs a cute crop top with a flowy maxi skirt, creating the perfect balance between style and cool comfort that is essential in the island heat. Believe it or not, the lacy bright pink top that she is wearing is actually a bathing suit top. This top can easily pass for a summer crop top with its longer cut that shows just the right amount of midriff when paired with her maxi skirt. The great striped pattern of her maxi skirt adds a fun nautical twist to her island-inspired outfit. When the temperature creeps its way up to 90 degrees Fahrenheit (which it does just about everyday in the Caribbean), this Fashionista ties a knot in the bottom of her maxi skirt to bring up the hem. Not only is this outfit embracing the tropical Caribbean environment, but this Fashionista can go from exploring the center of Basseterre, St. Kitts, to the beach in no time.

The necklace that this Fashionista is wearing is the Caribbean style Evil Eye necklace. Many cultures believe that wearing the Evil Eye protects you from any injury or bad luck. This Fashionista purchased this unique blown-glass evil eye necklace at a beachfront shop in St. Kitts. The addition of this necklace incorporates a little bit of the Caribbean culture to her great island outfit.
