BEAUTY BAR: Sun’s Out, Buns Out

This month I decided to focus on a trend that has been making waves this season: the half bun. Also called the “party bun,” it’s been seen everywhere from parties to class, and I’ve even spotted some trendy businesswomen sporting the look. Like I’ve always said, versatility is key. and this new hairstyle is perfect for that. It’s the perfect way to show off your summer hair and length while keeping the locks out of your eyes.

This Fashionista does a great job making this hairstyle look absolutely effortless. She could’ve thrown her hair up in that bun within seconds, but onlookers would have no idea because of the way the hair just ties the whole look together. Rocking a fancier style, she’s the perfect example of how a half bun can be easy but very classy. She takes her simple black dress and lace-up shoes ensemble up a notch by adding a more summery vibe which can be difficult to achieve when sporting a black dress during the transition from spring to summer. The unstructured hairstyle brings a more relaxed look to an otherwise edgier outfit.

Let’s talk about those curls for a second. This Fashionista explained how these were her natural curly locks, and I am very impressed. Though we all may not be as fortunate to have such curly hair, curling one’s hair when trying to achieve a summery half bun can be very beneficial because who doesn’t love some beachy waves? Even if you don’t live anywhere near a beach, fake it ’till you make it.

What’s on the BEAUTY BAR: To recreate the Fashionista’s look, all you’ll need is a tight hair tie or scrunchy (if you’re having a ’90s flashback) and some hairspray! Take the top section of your hair (how much hair you want to put in the bun is up to you) slip it through the hair tie once to make a mini-bun, swirl your hair around the mini bun a few times until the strand of hair is wrapped around the mini bun and fit the hair tie over the big bun. Adjust the bun however you’d like, everyone is different. Finally, give the hair a few spurts of hairspray and you have yourself the cutest, trendiest little bun you’ve ever seen.
