BEAUTY BAR: Mastering Mod

Recently the ’90s grunge look has been making its way from the runway to the streets as everyone is tying a flannel around their waist and dusting off their old scrunchies. But let’s take it back a few more decades. While the ’50s saw pink poodle skirts and cardigans, the women of the ’60s wore groovy patterns and graphic eye makeup.

I spotted this Fashionista and felt like I took a time machine 50 years back. Her winged eyeliner and large framed sunnies reminded me of the mod beauty and fashion trends icons that Twiggy and Audrey Hepburn always wore. It screams sass and attitude, and in a good way!

Creating the perfect winged eye can be difficult and intimidating at times, but as any beauty guru will tell you, your liner wings are sisters, not twins. Being brave enough to extend your liner past the corner of your eyes and blocking out the haters with large sunglasses shows that you know who you are and are confident enough to rock any style. Using a nude lipgloss in a “your lips but better” shade helps keep the look fresh and doesn’t take the focus away from the eyes. A polished and pulled back ponytail keeps this Fashionista’s hair out of her face so that she can concentrate on any tasks that need to get done.

Her outfit doesn’t fall short of the retro trend either. The high neck of her sleeveless top is modest, but the fun pattern allows this Fashionista’s personality to shine through. The buttons down the back are a small detail, but really stand out. For bottoms, anything high-waisted is reminiscent of ’60s fashion and this black pair has a fun texture that transforms a classic piece into one more edgy.

What’s on the BEAUTY BAR? Using a black liquid eyeliner is essential to mastering the ultra feminine cat eye. Finding the perfect nude lipgloss can take a while, but the key is to make sure it is the right tone for your complexion. While you may already have a favorite pair of high-waisted bottoms, here’s a funky top that’ll take you back. Lastly, don’t forget to slide on a pair of cat eye sunglasses to complete the look. Need some tips and tricks on how to create an awesome winged liner? Check out this video!
