BEAUTY BAR: Light it Up

June 10th, 2015 at 2:00am

For all the unfortunate Fashionista/os on the quarter system still in school, summer is almost here and it is about time to brighten things up. Let’s get fun and flirty and allow ourselves to stand out again. With class and meetings dominating our days at school, we usually slap on some eyeliner and mascara at most. On days with a lot of class, eye shadow makes me feel fancy and lip color isn’t even a question. I was thinking about how I was going to refresh my makeup routine this summer. Now, the first place I always focus on to brighten up my look is my eyes.  The eyes are the windows to the soul and all that, right? Usually the way I brighten them up is by experimenting with the lighter colors in my Urban Decay palette but I think we can all agree we need a little something more this summer.

Now, you may all bow down to this week’s Fashionista because she has seen the light. She decided to change up her everyday makeup routine by adding High Beam, a brightener by Benefit that she added to the inside of her lids. As you can see, it creates the little glow and sparkle we all need in our lives. High Beam is usually used on the cheeks to add a little glow to your complexion, but our Fashionista got a little creative.  You can buy this little bottle of magic at Benefit or it’s also sold in most Sephoras.  What is especially great about this product is that with this glow, there is no need to layer on the mascara, eye shadow or eyeliner! With a little bit of this highlighter, simplicity is the best combination. Here’s to the brightest summer yet! To contrast the lightening of the High Beam, our Fashionista darkens and defines her brows. She then adds a little color on her lips and cheeks, which results in a natural look good for any day out.

What’s on the Beauty Bar:  This Fashionista loves her some Benefit Cosmetics. As a foundation, she mixes both Clinique’s Superbalanced and Benefit’s POREfessional. To add a little color, she uses Benefit’s Coralista blush and Baby Lips chapstick, which you can purchase in any drugstore.  In order to define her brows, she uses Urban Decay’s Basics.  For her simple mascara and eyeliner, our fashionista uses Mega Plush and Rocket Volume mascara by Maybelline and Stila’s water-proof liquid eyeliner.  You can use all of these simple products each day for a little extra sparkle that will still look natural.  Be creative and have fun!
