BEAUTY BAR: Flower Child

Films and novels would have you believe there is nothing more magical than a Long Island summer. Long days at the beach, shopping at the outlets and weekend trips to The City That Never Sleeps, what could be better? Although Long Island summers are pretty great, stories often forget one not so glamorous part- the overwhelming humidity that causes hair to swell and makeup to melt. It is pretty tempting to surrender to Mother Nature and give up your beauty routine, but this Fashionista proves that we can fight the humidity and look fabulous while doing it.

Braids are a pretty standard summer hairstyle since they are low maintenance and easily conceal frizzy hair, but our Fashionista takes her braid to the next level. She starts off with a small braid at the crown of her head that seamlessly weaves it into a larger, side braid. The double braid appears complex to an observer, but is quite simple and fast to create, making for an effortlessly chic look.

When applying her makeup, our Fashionista opted for a fresh-faced look, with most of the attention on her eyes. She used a light BB Cream with SPF on her face to prevent dryness and sun damage, and used a tinted lip gloss to add a pop of color. On her eyes, our Fashionista created a shimmery, sunset-inspired look by using various shades of gold eye shadow, black eyeliner and a coat of mascara.

Our Fashionista’s eyes aren’t the only things sparkling. Her teardrop, crystal earrings glimmer as they catch the sun’s rays, adding an element of sophistication to her bohemian ensemble. Her peach crop top and high-low, floral skirt scream summer and will definitely turn heads. This Fashionista is ready for summer and nothing can stop her, especially the humidity.

What’s on the BEAUTY BAR? To recreate this bohemian princess look, you don’t need a royal stylist. Grab a clear hair tie for the braid, two to three shades of gold for your eyelids, black pencil liner and your favorite mascara, and you will be looking fierce in no time!
