BEAUTY BAR: Baby Bun

This week’s Fashionista is sporting this summer’s most popular hair trend: The baby bun. The baby bun, also known as half- up knot or half bun, is essentially just a half-up half-down hairstyle with a little kick. Celebrities such as Ariana Grande, Ashley Teasdale and just about every Tumblr famous girl has been caught sporting this hairstyle. The best part about the baby bun is its versatility. What I’ve noticed is that with a few simple adjustments, the baby bun can go from a super laid-back effortless hairstyle to an uber chic look.

During the summer, many girls seem to find the perfect balance between comfort and style. This Fashionista perfected the effortless-chic look to a T. Let’s start with the outfit. She is wearing dark-wash jeans, a flowy teal tank top and Tory Burch sandals. She is also wearing a light pink bralette, a dainty gold necklace and sunglasses. When choosing a comfortable outfit for a summer day, flowy, breathable pieces are always a great idea. This teal tank/pink bralette combination is a great look for a casual summer day because it is lightweight and comfortable but still has subtle details that make each piece a bit more stylish. Also, you can never go wrong with a pair of comfortable skinny jeans and nice sandals.

Now, back to the mane event (you see what I did there?). This Fashionista has achieved the perfect effortless baby bun. She started by parting her hair as though she was styling a regular half-up half-down look. Next, she gently twisted the half that is up into a small top knot looking bun. The half that is down looks gorgeous because her naturally wavy hair lays perfectly underneath the bun. She also has a few wisps of hair on the sides that not only frame her face but also add to the effortless part of her look.

What’s on the BEAUTY BAR: The key to this summer hairstyle, in my opinion, is texture. Try a little sea salt spray to give your hair some extra wave. Also, you will definitely need hair ties and possibly bobby pins if you want a more put-together look. Good luck!
