AROUND TOWN: Hemline

The problem with having a big university in a small town is that it sends the resident Fashionistas scrambling to find pieces as unique as they are. Fortunately for local boutiques, “unique” is their middle name. Located in Historic Downtown Bryan, Hemline offers the kind of unique that speaks to my stylish soul. Heading to the cozy boutique filled with gorgeous bohemian-inspired finds, I talked with the owner about all Hemline has to offer.

Name: Elisa McMurrey

Role: Owner, Hemline Boutique

Role: Employee, Hemline Boutique

CollegeFashionista: What is your favorite thing about running a boutique in a college town?

Elisa McMurrey: My favorite thing about my boutique being in a college town is meeting and interacting with the college girls.  Being a mother of five daughters is the joy of my life, and just as in my past small business, my customers become more like family and friends rather than just a customer.

CF: What are some of your favorite brands that you carry?

EM:  Our favorite brands are our exclusive ones: Free People, Show Me Your MuMu, One Teaspoon and Tolani, just to name a few. They are on the forefront of trend setting for every season and having these lines sets us apart from other boutiques.  Women of all ages love these brands, and (they) call and travel to shop with us just to get them.

CF: What are some trends you are looking forward to carrying this spring?

EM: The chic, put-together look is coming together with ease this spring.  Boyfriend jeans and shorts, tie-dye in all styles, dresses, rompers and tops.  The colors are great and fresh after a long, cold winter. Mint, lavender and coral are at the top of the list… easy wedges and sandals in neutral, soft leathers are also on the top of our list. Jewelry basics in natural stones such as our Druzy stud earrings are a must-have this spring.

CF: Do you have any fun in-store events coming up?

EM: We are just coming to a close on our big event for spring break.  Once the girls return with their sun kissed tans, we will be ready to dress them for all of their spring events.  Semi-formals, Aggie Ring Day, the local high school proms, Easter and then graduation. We have in-store events every Friday, sales, drinks and light snacks.  We often see girls hang out for over an hour just talking, relaxing and enjoying their time at Hemline.  When someone walks through our front door, I want them to have an experience, sure I hope they love our choices and offerings of clothing, but the bottom line is: I hope they leave happier than when they walked in.
