AROUND TOWN: Brianna Olsen

A picture is worth more than a thousand words. In this case, it’s worth an article for CollegeFashionista! Brianna Olsen is a student photographer who has captured numerous moments through the lens of her Nikon camera since her early teen years. Photography is a great passion of hers and since her move to UCSD from Florida, she has received many opportunities to develop her skills. It comes to no surprise that her great eye for photography also inspires her fashion interests and amazing style. Check out my short question-and-answer I had with this awesome Fashionista!

Name: Brianna Olsen

Role: Student Photographer

CollegeFashionista: How did you get interested in photography?

Brianna Olsen: In middle school and early high school, I went through this vintage-obsessed phase where I was really interested in old cameras. My dad gave me his Canon AE-1 to fiddle around with and I guess my curiosity was never fully satisfied. So, I just kept experimenting and learning about photography as much as I could.

CF: Where do you draw inspiration from?

BO: When it comes to my own personal and conceptual work, music inspires me so much! I’ll listen to a song, close my eyes and then try to translate what that song makes me feel into something visual. When it comes to portraits and client work, I’m honestly just inspired by the people I shoot. Photographing someone is such a unique and intimate way to get to know them, and I’m lucky to say that I’ve met some amazing, inspiring friends this way!

CF: How would you describe your personal style?

BO: I feel like my style is a mix-match of two very different parts of my personality. I like to wear preppy elements like collars and cardigans because I love the sleek, clean-cut sense of motivation it gives me (p.s. I’m a Virgo). But I also listen to hard rock and have an absolute obsession with studs and black leather.

CF: What’s the best part of your photography?

BO: The best part of my photography is getting to participate in the creative community! The most eye-opening experience as an artist is when your personal hobby suddenly takes you out of your bedroom and lands you amongst this niche of artists who have similar goals and dreams. The support and camaraderie I’ve gained from that is priceless.
