ALL IN THE DETAILS: Summer Silk Scarves

I am a sucker for creating outfits that are unique. Vintage pieces are such a perfect way to make that everyday outfit stand out. Personally, I would love to ditch the high street and invest purely in vintage, but the truth is finding perfect items are hard to come by and sometimes can be quite time consuming. So sticking with vintage accessories can be a great compromise. Whether you are just going into university for a quick meeting or going for lunch with the girls, adding a silk secondhand scarf can add depth to any outfit for any occasion.

A well-chosen scarf can be used as a tool, adding layering, detail or even used as another garment. Scarves can also be worn in various ways. Just draping or tying around the neck, tucking into a belt or fastening to a handbag (I prefer to tie a knot on each side which increases the weight and stops it from flying away in the wind). My point is that adding a scarf, especially a vintage one, changes the appearance of an everyday outfit into a well put together ensemble.

This Fashionista pairs her scarf perfectly with a lightly checked shirt from River Island, black leggings from Zara and a statement pair of lace-covered baby blue winkle-picker ballet pumps. On paper this outfit seems quite a risk; however, I think it works perfectly and really oozes style and sophistication. Last but not least, her arm candy really tops the outfit off: the classic Louis Vuitton Speedy 30 bag with a damier canvas. This iconic statement bag adds a vast amount of fashion kudos without drawing too much attention away from the outfit.

How To: Get yourself down to the local vintage thrift store and head straight to the accessory section. Pick two to three key items and add them to your outfit each day.
