ALL IN THE DETAILS: Summer Knits for Summer Nights

May is coming to an end and I know I’m looking forward to breaking out my summer wardrobe and soaking up some sun, as I’m sure you all are too. Unfortunately, here in Minnesota, we never know what kind of weather we’re going to get, so sometimes a sweater or jacket is necessary.  But who says you can’t wear knits in the summer? Certainly not this Fashionista and certainly not me. Knits can be a great way to warm up a summer outfit for those cool summer nights, no matter where you live!

I spotted this Fashionista sporting a chunky, teal cardigan to warm up her summer look. The more open-knit style of this cardigan provides just the right amount of warmth, while not being too hot and stuffy to be in the sun. To add to her outfit, she chose a simple charm necklace as her only accessory, so as not to distract from the other pieces she’s wearing. Her brown suede booties have some cute crochet detailing and they make her look comfortable and great for any casual summer occasion. Finally, pairing the sweater with this floral-printed crop top creates a completed look that’s fun, summery and also weather-appropriate.

Not only do knits like this Fashionista’s work well for unpredictable Minnesota weather, but they can also be an awesome addition to many summer outfits and a good way to transition your outfit from day to night. Adding an oversized cardigan to a light romper or throwing on a crochet-knit sweater with some boyfriend jeans are both great options for warming up an outfit when the sun goes down. There’s always my favorite way to sport summer knits: over a bikini top and denim shorts after a day by the lake.

How To: Start by digging a few of your sweaters out of hibernation! Choose some that are lightweight or more open-knit. Make sure to pick sweaters or cardigans that are lighter or more colorful, to add to the summer feel of your look. Then, pair them with a crop top and shorts or try an off-the-shoulder knit over a dress and there you go! You’ll have an awesome, laid-back summer look that’s both comfy and stylish.
