ALL IN THE DETAILS: Posh Pastels

Pastels in the spring are a given, however, this year more style bloggers and street style photographs present the new trend of continuing to wear pastels into the summer and even pairing them with bright neutrals. Some celebrities, like Taylor Swift, have gone so far as to take this trend to the red carpet.

This Fashionista was found lounging at a local coffee shop near campus with her version of this trend. She wears a floral pastel kimono with a white button-down blouse and a patterned pastel scarf on her head. She cleverly accessorized the look with a nude Prada tote bag, lavender wedges, gold enamel bracelets, an abstract necklace and sunglasses. Her use of patterns is eye-catching as the color palettes of both the kimono and scarf are very similar. Plus when they are paired together the two different patterns work harmoniously. The lightweight blouse and kimono are also great for warm weather because they are light layers that often catch the breeze as they move.

Upon closer examination, her addition of accessories is very similar to her pairing of patterns. She incorporates many elements from the abstract pearl necklace to the tote. However, all of these elements work together and create an organic blend. Since they were all in muted tones, they do not distract from the patterns in her scarf and kimono and each piece was interesting when regarded alone.

Summer is normally a season cluttered with bright neon and festival apparel, however, this new trend of bright neutrals and pastels create a chic summer ensemble suitable for attending summer classes or working at a new internship.

How To: The most effective way to achieve this look is by pairing a light cigarette pant with a feminine blouse and muted jewelry. This is a great way to add variety and edge to traditional office clothing. For accessories, follow the lead of this Fashionista and pair it with either statement jewelry or an elegant wedge. If the pieces are simple enough, they can be used for a variety of occasions and can easily be paired with any item in your wardrobe.
