ALL IN THE DETAILS: Plaid Peacoat

Winter has finally arrived…temperature wise! At most colleges, winter means that campus is a sea of UGGs and The North Face fleece jackets. Personally, I don’t even think that flimsy fleece jackets are warm, I’m actually more of a knee length parka kinda gal, but that’s besides the point. Don’t blend in with crowd—stand out! Peacoats are a great winter outerwear option because they are warm and fashionable at the same time. They come in all different styles, lengths and colors so you’re sure to find one that’s perfectly “you.”

This Fashionista had the right idea by skipping out on the typical fleece jacket and fur boots. Not only did she opt for a peacoat—she opted for a plaid peacoat! How awesome! Her coat stuck out to me immediately because I’m used to seeing peacoats in mostly neutral colors like brown, black and beige. She allowed her coat to be the most eye-catching part of her ensemble by keeping the rest of her look simple. She wore a pair of black, skinny jeans, a gray sweater and black booties. They say that you lose the most heat through your head and feet, so I guess she made up for the lack of fur boots by rocking a black beanie on her head.

This Fashionista’s coat is definitely a great one. While it has more character than a solid colored peacoat, it is not over the top as the colors in the plaid print are not too vibrant. This coat is something that she could wear on any occasion and would be able to match to a variety of other outfits. Since it’s hard to show off your ensemble outdoors in the winter (thanks to the freezing temperatures), it’s always nice to have rad outerwear!

How To: Step up your outerwear game with a standout peacoat. Consider sticking to a plaid peacoat, like this Fashionista’s. A neutral colored pattern will allow you to mix and match with lots of outfits but if all else fails, black jeans are always a go-to and look good with anything! Skip out on the UGGs and go for a pair of booties. Not only do they look great but they’re easy to walk in too! Add a cute beanie or headwrap to your look and you’re ready to take on the chilly winter weather, all while looking great!
