ALL IN THE DETAILS: Mixing Metals

When it comes to accessories, it can be hard to mix metals. Heck—I used to be completely opposed to mixing gold and silver, but times have changed. If you consider your personal style to be urban and edgy (and even if you don’t), then listen up. There are no fashion laws that prevent mixing metals, and when done correctly the look is effortless and chic.

Metal jewelry and accessories are a perfect way to give your outfit some edge, while still maintaining a delicate and feminine touch, depending on how they’re styled. No longer does a silver necklace have to be paired with a cool-toned accessory or clothing item. The same can be said about warm-toned metals as well. If you feel confident mixing all types of metal than you go for it!

In this look, silver, copper and gold are paired together. The gold and the black stone in the ring complement the dark metal, almost brass, detailing on the shirt. The silver and blue tones in the necklace complement the denim in the chambray top. And the red nails are a great pop of color in this otherwise all-neutral outfit.

The Fashionista has paired her top with a pair of plain black jeans and a pair of open-toed brown booties. The brown booties complement the warm brass studs on the chambray top and accent her blonde hair. In my opinion you can’t really go wrong with a pair of cute booties.

How To: To start off, any pair of black jeans will do. For the top, choose a denim or chambray top. Pair that with your favorite booties and mixed-metal jewelry and you are good to go!
