ALL IN THE DETAILS: Hello Hollywood

I’m not sure about you, but I’ve always had a fancy for hats. Baseball hats, boater hats, bucket hats, fedoras…the list goes on. You name it, I’ve probably worn it. While I’ve may have sported each of these hats at different phases of my life, there is one in particular that never goes out of style: the classic floppy hat.

One of my favorite fashion gurus once told me, “All you need is a big hat, a big pair of sunglasses and a red lip to look like a movie star.” I’d say this Fashionista pulls off the Hollywood look pretty well in a black maxi dress, straw hat, Tory Burch sunglasses, tote and Zara wedges. While stars have caught on to the trend, floppy hats are cropping up in street style across the country. They are versatile enough to wear to the beach or during a fun night with friends, which is why designers love incorporating them into their spring/summer collections.

Combined with a pair of classic shades, elegant bag and textured wedge sandals, the hat makes the look feminine and elegant. Plus, it aids in protecting against UV rays and premature sun damage—something that no Fashionista wants.

How To: Not sure how to rock this look on your own? Don’t overthink it! Grab a maxi dress from your wardrobe in any solid color, preferably something dark or a color that contrasts with the floppy hat. Snag a pair of dark, oversized sunglasses and a hat with a textured feel to keep your cool under the sun. Finally, slide your feet into a pair of cork wedges with fun designs. Play up your lips with a bold red or coral color if you choose and say hello to Hollywood!
