ALL IN THE DETAILS: (Denim) Skirt the Rules

Does anything ever really go out of style? In my opinion, no. Fashion trends always have a way of making a comeback, and lately it seems so more frequent. From flannels to baggy jeans and Calvin Klein underwear, trends from the ‘90s are now more popular than ever. Stores are once again filled with denim skirts, chokers and espadrilles. The grunge look is in style right now, and this Fashionista totally killed it. With her ribbed knit, V-neck tank, white denim button-front skirt, elephant choker and black espadrilles, she perfectly exemplifies a ‘90s grunge girl.

If you would have asked me a couple months ago if I would ever wear a denim skirt, my answer would have been something along the lines of, “Are you crazy? I’d never.” I used to rock chokers all the time in middle school, but denim skirts were never my thing. After seeing the comeback that they’ve made and how this Fashionista beautifully styled it, I went out and bought one myself.

A denim skirt can completely transform an outfit and it is extremely versatile. Whether it’s regular blue jean, black or white, like this Fashionista’s, you can wear it with anything. Pair it with cute sandals and a light top to make your outfit girly. If worn with a basic T-shirt and a pair of sneakers, you’re comfy, casual and ready to be on the go. Denim skirtd can even be paired with a blouse and some wedges, and you’ll be ready for Sunday brunch. This Fashionista’s white denim skirt adds a vintage feel to her grunge look, and the buttons along the front make it look totally retro. This denim skirt is not just a skirt–it’s a statement. It completely brings the outfit together, is the main focus of the ensemble and is sure to turn some heads. Not only is the mini skirt extremely flattering to the body, but it can be combined with several beautiful pieces to create countless looks. Whether you’re trying to look girly, sporty, classy or retro, a denim skirt can always be your go-to piece.

How To: I encourage you to step out of your comfort zone. Fashion is always what you make of it. Never tell yourself: “That style doesn’t look good on me,” or “I can’t wear that color.” Take a risk and try something new for a change. If you loved this Fashionista’s look as much as I did, go pick up a denim skirt at Forever 21. It’ll go perfectly with a tank top or simple T-shirt and a cute pair of shoes. Don’t overdo the rest of the outfit. The denim skirt is a statement piece and will surely catch everyone’s attention. Let it speak for itself.
