STYLE GURU STYLE: Yin and Yang

Black and white are both go-to colors. They are basic and reliable, and they can be matched with almost anything. Interesting enough, when the two colors are combined in one fabric it makes for a very vibrant piece. As a result of the colors being completely opposite on the color wheel, when put together it creates a very interesting design. This is why I was so attracted to Nicole Millers resort 2016 fashion show. She played with many styles of clean black and white and zebra print fabrics. There were bow shoulder blouses, two tiered jackets, power stretch dresses, wide leg pants, cropped pant jumpsuits and my favorite black and white printed dress with gladiator sandals.

This look was exotic yet classic, which is why I wanted to recreate it. I choose to wear my recreation to dinner in Center City on a hot 90 degree day. The gladiator sandals were easy to walk in and the dress was light so it was comfy on a hot day. I feel like the black and white combination can transition from formal to informal very well if worn correctly. Also, the print has so much character. I look forward to styling this look in different ways in the future.

For my look, I wore a black and white tribal print patterned dress. With this, I wore gladiator sandals a bit shorter than the Nicole Miller look. To add a pop of color for the summer I threw on my favorite red matte lipstick.

Get My Look: 1. Black and white printed dress. 2. Gladiator sandals. 3. Red lipstick.
