ALL IN THE DETAILS: Crazy For Kimonos

As the end of summer approaches, the transition to fall attire begins. Although Florida heat gives us a constant reminder that it is still too hot for boots and sweaters, we still manage to layer clothing in a manner that will prevent us from overheating.

An easy way to make the transition from summer to fall can be done through kimonos. This lightweight addition makes the perfect must-have for any style. Kimonos make layering easy and add originality to a rather bland look. They can also create a perfect substitution for heavier cover-ups, such as sweaters and jackets.

One of my favorite perks of kimonos is the diversity it offers. The variety of lengths can give off a different look on every outfit, anywhere from boho to edgy. It is important to choose your kimono according to the length of your base outfit. For example, short kimonos should be paired with a long base, such as maxis or leggings; whereas long kimonos should be paired with a short base, such as shorts, rompers or even a bathing suit. This will help accentuate your body shape rather than hiding it.

This Fashionista paired her short olive green kimono with a black maxi dress. This patterned kimono livened up the simplicity of her maxi and provided coverage. She then finalized the outfit with a rustic, layered necklace and black sandals.

How To: This boho look is very easy to replicate. Dig out your favorite maxi from your closet and pair it with a lightweight kimono for a summer outing. If your maxi is patterned, be sure to choose a solid kimono and vise versa.
