STYLE GURU STYLE: Wannabe

I will confess that I squealed like a little girl when I found out platform shoes were back in season this summer. (Oh be still my ‘90s child heart!). Being 5’3” I always love shoes that can make me feel a tad bit taller. I wear them with everything, from running errands in jeans to going out with my girlfriends. So I was super excited to see this shoe trend turn up on the catwalks again for the resort 2016 season.

Now my dear readers, you have heard me multiple times over the summer obsessed over my love for long layers and baggy clothes. That being said, I fell head over heels for MM6 Maison Margiela resort 2016 line. MM6 is the new contemporary line by the house of Maison Margiela, ever famous for their eccentric headpieces publicized by Kanye West. The new resort line featured patterned, oversized work pants underneath pleated knee length skirts. The untucked shirts created an effortless, carefree vibe.

The collection itself kept ahold of the sport driven fashion we are seeing lately, combined with the professional style of the modern businesswomen. Any of these pieces could be joined to create a look for either work or play. Of course, all the models were styled in platform shoes giving the sporting look an edgy vibe.

Though I will always be a forever fan of platform shoes, I was draw to this multifaceted layering style. By being so short the unspoken rule is the more structured the better. But I embraced this fluid style head on. As per the catwalk I opted for a button-down shirt, as a nod to the preppy style of tennis, and of course, untucked! I then coupled it with a side slit skirt to give the outfit some edge. One simple addition of an unwound infinity scarf enhances the free flowing movement of both the skirt and the top. Competing the outfit with some platform sneakers (duh!) to mimic the runway trend itself.

Get My Look: 1. Button-down shirt. 2. Side slit skirt. 3. Platform sneakers.
