STYLE GURU STYLE: Army Base

Just as a few years ago, the military colors are back just in time for this season. I almost forgot it went out of style because it came back so fast again. The style can be a bit grungy with those boots and cuts. But overall, the different shades of green make it quite unique. I believe that Marc Jacobs’ ready-to-wear runway show for spring 2015 captured this trend perfectly. Personally, I get a lot of my inspiration from Marc Jacobs; Marc by Marc Jacobs is one of my favorite brands.

In fashion shows, they usually make everything bigger and more lavish than in real life clothing. So when I translate outfits from fashion shows into real life, I try to take the few pieces I like and mix them with some basic pieces I already have. I believe in wearing basics but upgrading the outfit with accessories and jackets. I’m wearing my favorite black leather shorts and a military green button-down shirt. The buttons go until the waist, though the shirt is a maxi shirt. One of the new trends today is to wear dress shirts that go below the knees. My backpack, which is super trendy these days, has fringe all over it.

Let me tell you a secret about myself. People always think I wear my clothes once and never use them again. My friends always wonder how I have new things all the time. I do not shop all the time. I just reuse my clothes. First, remember that trends come back. If you bought a quality garment that you still love but isn’t in style anymore, make sure to save it. I promise you will use it in the future. Second, always make that “must-have list.” Pick an item from every trend you like. You don’t really need five jackets that look the same. That’s the big secret of always staying in style.

Get My Look: 1. Military shirt. 2. Backpack. 3. Sandals.
