STYLE GURU STYLE: Florals

Annually, as the snow melts, temperatures increase, and new life begins to emerge from the soil, designers across the globe feature these floral inspirations in their spring and summer designs. Stella McCartney impeccably balances floral prints and lacy details with solid swaths of neutral color in her resort 2016 collection. As somebody that goes gaga for florals and classic shapes, I felt inspired by McCartney’s combinations of classic tailored jackets and skirts with bold, minimalist prints.  To me, these looks strike the delicate balance between whimsy and structure. McCartney furthermore keeps her colors in check by creating accents and pops that add dimension and depth to her long and flowing dresses with playful cutouts and animal prints. Overall, McCartney’s collection exudes elegance, confidence and individuality.

In order to translate this high fashion floral and neutral look into a student-friendly budget, I started with a white lacy top and paired it with a high-waisted floral print skater skirt, baring some skin to match the subtle sex appeal of McCartney’s collection. On the bottom, I chose simple black tights and flats in order to provide balance, and also to keep the focus on the colors in the skirt and the texture of the top.  Coral-orange fingernails echo the orange featured in the skirt and a bright but light lipstick keeps this look appropriate for daytime. To accessorize, I stuck with my favorite classic circular sunglasses, basic gold earrings and a small but practical embroidered purse from a flea market in Mexico.

Get My Look: 1. White crop top.  2.  Floral skater skirt.   3.  Circular glasses.
