STYLE GURU STYLE: To Knit Or Not To Knit?

During the spring 2015 ready-to-wear runway shows, Fashionistas and Fashionistos got to see the upcoming looks for the season’s textiles, cuts, ensembles and overall trends. One of my favorite shows was from the See by Chloé collection. Within the collection, there were looks that included polka-dot floral patterned dresses, gingham jackets and a denim shift dress, just to name a couple of the looks that stood out to me. Needless to say, there is definitely a lot going on in this collection! The main theme for this collection, I believe, is “beach preppy”—with the main colors such as white, black and blue incorporated into patterns, it definitely has the nautical vibes when summer “surfs in.”

My favorite look from this collection was probably look number 15. A sleeveless plunging V-neck, forget-me-not blue, knit/crochet peplum dress—this has all the marks for a look that can be brought from the runway to any Fashionista’s closet. This is how I adapted this runway look to my Style Guru wardrobe. While peplum is often popular during the colder months of the year, it’s often hard to find that cut in a summer dress, so you can instead adapt it into a fit and flare, which accentuates any waistline. Next to think about is the color; while I love the shade of blue the dress has on the runway, I definitely recommend wearing a color that is either one of your favorites or that is not in your closet yet (hence why I chose dandelion yellow). Another part that I adapted from the blue runway dress to the yellow dress is the knit/crochet textile look. While it may not be as noticeable from a good distance, it definitely adds to the detail in the dress and is not a bad choice to wear for a windy day. To complete this look, add a brown leather clutch wallet and a pair of open-toe sandal heels, and you’ll steal your own runway!

Get My Look: 1. Any bright knit/crochet dress. 2. Any open toe heels. 3. Clutch wallet.
