STYLE GURU BIO: Rebecca Folsom

Hey y’all! My name is Rebecca Folsom and I am a current sophomore Fashion Merchandising major with a minor in Business at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia. We have recently had the pleasure of being named named one of the top fashion schools on the East Coast.

Ever since I can remember, I have always been interested in fashion. I would watch countless episodes of Project Runway and What Not to Wear. Instead of toys for Christmas and birthdays, I would ask for clothes or money to buy clothes because I was just that obsessed with them! I remember my favorite gift I received for Christmas was a Project Runway designer kit, which had a sketchpad and fabric to make your designs with. A year later, my mom surprised me with sewing classes and a sewing machine.

It was not until my first semester of college that I realized for sure that the fashion world was the place for me. I had first registered my major as nursing. This was a huge mistake! I figured out real quick that this was not the path for me, due to the fact that I am not at all good at any kind of science or math.

In search of a new major, I looked at fashion. It was something I had always loved and wanted to create a career in, but I feared that if I did, I would end up working at Walmart the rest of my life because of the lack of jobs. I knew that there were successful people in this field such as stylists, bloggers and designers, but my fears outweighed the good. I knew that if I began a career in fashion that I would ultimately want to be a stylist and took inspiration from some of my favorites; Rachel Zoe and Courtney Kerr. After countless hours on their websites, I decided it was finally time to hop out of my comfort zone, get my hands a little dirty, and begin my journey as a fashion stylist.

As a fashion student, I really do enjoy learning about the latest trends and seeing what new designers collections entail each season. My ultimate passion is styling, but throughout my first year in college I have really began to enjoy designing as well. My goal in my fashion career is help women and men who may need help, unleash their inner Fashionista and find their personal style, whether it be by a makeover or just styling them for a party. Coco Chanel once said, “Everyday is a fashion show and the world is the runway.”

Throughout my first year of college, I have also had the opportunity of creating my own personal fashion blog, House of Jadore Styling. Please feel free to check it out, give me a follow, and some likes!

My style differs day to day. It actually just depends on my mood. Oops. One day I can be seen wearing a casual dress, while another I may be all dressed up with heels. Pieces that can always be seen in my closet are leggings and jumpsuits. I love dressing comfortable while still being stylish and I feel that leggings and jumpsuits do just the trick! Pair leggings with a cute blouse or crop top and you are ready to conquer anything. The same for a jumpsuit. I just love a good jumpsuit or even a romper because they literally are so comfortable, yet I know when I wear one I am still trendy and fashionable.

I am extremely excited about having the opportunity to become a CollegeFashionista Style Guru and seeking out the different styles on my campus each week. I feel that a person’s style is one of the most important components about a them. As my favorite stylist Rachel Zoe once said, “Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak.”
