STYLE GURU BIO: Stan Taylor

Hi everyone! My name is Stan Taylor, and I am a senior at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, majoring in Communications with a concentration in Journalism and Electronic Media. This is my last summer before I dive into the “real world,” so I am definitely stoked about being a part of this internship and getting first-hand experience with style blogging.

I was born right outside of Memphis, in a very small town that only consisted of a Wal-Mart and a few women’s boutiques. My family and I often traveled between my hometown and Atlanta to visit family, which made for a very busy and culturally diverse childhood. My parents taught my brother and I to always present the best face to the world, which means I didn’t even know what sweatpants were until I got to high school.

After growing up under a very fashionable mother and a very resourceful father, I eventually developed my own unique sense of style that often caught the attention of my peers, which made for both good and bad days in high school. I have never been scared to try something new. My fashion taste is a blend of Southern simplicity and city-chic. I love dressing up basics and adding something more unconventional. Even though I’m a guy, I also really love to play with silhouettes.

I am currently a head stylist at Express, so I am constantly researching new trends and relaying them to my customers.

After graduation, I plan to move to a major city and continue my fashion journey. With the teachings from this internship, I also hope to start and maintain my very own fashion blog because there aren’t many for trendy guys!

I often look to Pinterest for inspiration, to which I then add my own twist. More recently, my favorite items have been joggers, longline shirts and spring blazers because they are all convertible. My style changes very often in the sense that I can go from grunge to preppy to androgynous without a moment’s notice. I’m looking forward to a great summer as a Style Guru!
