STYLE GURU STYLE: Max(i)ed Out

I have arrived home from the glorious journey that was studying abroad. Gone are the days where I stroll along Exhibition Road with my coffee from Fernandez & Wells in hand. I have exchanged my 45 friends for my four immediate family members; hot tea is replaced with hot yoga. While I am having “abroad withdrawals” and missing every minute that I spent in a foreign country, I am focusing on fashion. Scoping out trends, I noticed how incredible the Marc Jacobs fall 2015 ready-to-wear show was.

To keep the unity, models donned dark lipstick and dramatic eye makeup. They also rocked up-dos, with all of their hair piled on top of their heads. Bold prints were the theme of this show, and they definitely made a statement. I love how prints can be anything from a floral design to a chevron stripe. The print that inspired this outfit was the bold stripe. On several garments, thick stripes were the focal point of the look. The shiny black material gave the looks an elegant edge to them. Striped clothing is great because it is versatile and stylish. You can always look put together and ready for life in a striped piece of clothing.

I decided to take on the trend of bold stripes in the form of a knitted maxi dress, complete with adorable patches at the elbows. This maxi is perfect for those cool spring mornings before the sun cuts through the gloomy clouds. The contrasting purple and black is an ideal combination that brings in some color to my all-black wardrobe. It is easy because all you have to do is throw it on and you are good to go! I complemented the dress with a black tote and a high ponytail.

Marc Jacobs always has great ideas, but this show was fantastic. Taking ideas from runway shows and incorporating them into your wardrobe can be scary, but with a little practice, you can totally do it!
