STYLE GURU STYLE: Fifty Shades of Fur

Recently, I began extending the life of my fall wardrobe and transitioning it into winter. I have found that many of the trends seen on the fall 2014 runway are versatile and wearable for all seasons. One of my favorite shows from this past year was Balenciaga’s ready-to-wear show, designed by Alexander Wang. I loved the sporty and monochromatic looks, many of which included neutral and grey outfits. It also implemented fur pieces with sweaters and other tops. Personally, I am a huge fan of faux fur. This mixed faux fur vest is one of my absolute favorite pieces and I love how cozy and warm it is. It’s a perfect transition piece from fall to winter but it would even pair well with a pair of distressed denim shorts or leather shorts for spring and summer; it’s very versatile. I love pieces that you can wear regardless the season!

Today, I chose to pair my vest with a grey turtleneck shirt, which was inspired by the shades of grey found in Balenciaga’s show. I also love my J Brand distressed skinny jeans and I especially love how well they complement the grey top. I decided to wear minimal jewelry since the fur vest is a statement piece and I finished off the look with a pair of simple, black booties. This outfit brought out a lot of the different elements of the fall 2014 ready-to-wear show but ultimately I felt like I was able to make this outfit completely my own. Adding your personal flair to a trend you admire is what makes the outfit uniquely yours.
