Despite living in New York City for almost two years now, I still find myself struggling to piece together outfits that are suitable for the city’s winter weather. What do you expect from a girl who’s spent her whole life in sunny South Florida? I don’t even think I wore jeans until I moved here! If you’re like me, then you have probably continued to wear t-shirts and jeans, and just added a coat on top and called it your “winter clothing.” A Fashionista that I ran into recently made me realize how simple properly dressing for the winter really can be if you find yourself the perfect jacket or coat.
I caught this Fashionista on a typical chilly day rocking this woolly textured ovoid jacket. So what exactly does “ovoid” even mean? The term ovoid describes something that is egg-shaped, but that’s the last thing that comes to mind when looking at this jacket! The zipper detail and collar give it a slight moto jacket feel. It’s easy to see how it can fit into both casual and more dressed up looks depending on what the Fashionista decides to wear underneath. Versatile statement pieces are my favorite winter staple. They will take your outfit to the next level!
Underneath the jacket, the Fashionista wore a burgundy sweater with a funnel-shaped neck. Like turtleneck sweaters, this style of sweater keeps your neck warm but is a bit more of a casual piece that can be worn everyday. The loose neck of the sweater replaces the need for a scarf. Her high-waisted skinny jeans complement the jacket’s zipper detailing with even more zippers along the back of her ankles. A black leather satchel and ankle boots complete her mostly neutral outfit. It’s simple as that! Just find your dream jacket or coat this winter and start planning looks that will keep you stylishly warm.
