STYLE GURU BIO: Rebecca Zhuo

Hi Fashionistas/os! My name is Rebecca (Becca) Zhuo, and I’m so excited to have the opportunity to share my fashion insights with you this summer as a CollegeFashionista Style Guru! I am a rising sophomore at Marist College, majoring in fashion merchandising with a concentration in product development and a minor in business. I’m also currently interning at Saskia de Vries Design, a small jewelry design company based in Brooklyn, New York.

I’ve always loved anything and everything to do with fashion. I love that fashion gives individuals the opportunity to express their personalities through their clothing, and how the right piece or outfit can help a person instigate so much confidence. I know I always feel more self-assured when I’m wearing an outfit that I’ve thoughtfully put together, as opposed to just running out the door in a haphazard ensemble I threw together five minutes before.

Another one of my favorite things about fashion is how different people can take the same piece (say a graphic T-shirt) and tailor that piece to fit his/her individual style. I’m always inspired when I walk around campus or New York City because I see students wearing pieces similar to those in my own closet, but in a completely unique way. This constant flow of creativity keeps my looks from becoming monotonous, and hopefully the looks I write about will spark new outfit ideas for you guys too!

I would describe my personal style as very feminine and classic, but with a modern twist. Some of my favorite designers are kate spade, alice + olivia, and The Row. I love when simple pieces are updated with fresh textures (leather is one of my favorite textiles to wear) and mixing different styles together to create a more contemporary look. Some of my favorite trends for the summer include off the shoulder and cold shoulder tops, orange, ruffles and mesh.

Here I am wearing an outfit that is composed of staple pieces with slight variations, which help keep the look interesting. I am wearing a chestnut-colored sleeveless knit top from Anthropologie, a patterned skirt from Zara, my favorite purple suede loafers, a cognac bucket bag from Francesca’s and a mix of gold accessories. This look represents my personal style very well; the neutral knit top provides a contrasting textile to the woven patterned skirt, and the shoes add another fun pop of color. The bag and accessories help to tie everything together, and bucket bags are a huge trend for summer 2016.

I hope my look provides some inspiration for you all, and I can’t wait to share more style tips with you this summer!
