STYLE GURU BIO: Molly Callaghan

Hi Fashionistas/os! My name is Molly Callaghan and I am a sophomore at the University of New Mexico studying political science and Spanish. I am excited to be a Style Guru this semester so that I can explore the world of fashion through the perspectives of other people. I also hope to show my readers that there is more to New Mexico than meets the eye. There seems to be a misconception that New Mexico is just a vast empty desert full of tumbleweeds. Albuquerque is not a very fashion-forward city but it is still a vibrant place with a lot to offer. UNM is even more vibrant than the city that surrounds it and I am confident that its diversity will offer fresh perspectives regarding fashion.

It is easy to look at my majors and say that political science and Spanish have very little to do with fashion. However, style plays a major role in the professional world regardless of whether or not one desires a career directly associated with fashion. It is my hope that in the near future I will either be working in Washington, D.C. or attending law school.

Pursuing either endeavor requires not only intelligence but also a professional appearance. As a young professional I have had a couple of different internships over the past year and I have found that Albuquerque often allows for a more casual professional appearance. I absolutely love this aspect of the area surrounding UNM because it presents the opportunity to add personal touches to my outfits.

Especially during the summer, my personal style can be described as a combination of boho and business casual. I have always enjoyed dressing up but I also love wearing comfortable clothes distinctive of summer time combined with a light almost vintage feel. I love light blouses, statement necklaces, natural makeup and leather accessories.

In order to achieve this look, pair dark wash jeans with a loose white blouse and a short blazer. Add a statement necklace and earrings in order to further enhance the outfit and embody the southwestern culture found in Albuquerque and Santa Fe. Add a pair of comfy brown open-toe shoes to enhance the southwestern flare of the outfit. Personally, I like to wear natural makeup. For this look, I chose to play up my eyes with the Urban Decay Naked eyeshadow palette, along with minimal eyeliner and a neutral lip. I also styled my hair with soft waves to add to the overall boho feel of this business casual look.
