STYLE GURU BIO: Alexis Alexander

Welcome Fashionistas and Fashionistos alike! My name is Alexis Alexander and I am a rising sophomore at Marist College. I am a fashion design major with a double minor in product development and fashion merchandising. Needless to say, I just can’t seem to get enough of anything fashion related. Coming to Marist has easily been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Pursuing my dream of becoming a fashion designer is coming to life before my very eyes at my new home in the Hudson Valley.

My family always tells that for as long as they can possibly remember, I’ve always wanted to be a fashion designer. I grew up watching the reality TV show Project Runway, and instantly knew that I wanted to do that too. I have been taking sewing classes since I was eight years old, and have made everything from a pillowcase to a suit jacket. I was even lucky enough to have my garments featured as a Project Runway “Insta Runway Challenge” winner selected by Tim Gunn.

When it comes to my own personal style, it is tough to describe in just one word. I love to experiment with mixing different styles and you can almost always catch me looking overdressed for every occasion. My friends always joke around that even on lazy Sunday afternoons, I’m likely to be rocking a blazer or sundress of some kind. Fashion is a way of expression, and I always love to look my best. Experimenting with new looks is fun, and I stand by the statement that you should never shy away from being exactly who you are.

In the words of Marilyn Monroe, “Give a girl the right pair of shoes and she can conquer the world.” I hope you all break out those strappy sandals and challenge the fashion world one step at a time this summer.
