STYLE GURU BIO: Darence Lim

My name is Darence Lim, and I am a student studying at Santa Clara University, a beautiful school located in the diverse and innovative Bay Area.  I am currently majoring in computer engineering while minoring in entrepreneurship. Although engineering, entrepreneurship and fashion seem wildly different, I believe they allow me to create something great and impactful that might have never existed before. With some imagination, creativity and prowess, one can achieve so much in these fields.

I fell in love with fashion when I discovered the television series, Ugly Betty. The dramedy made me realize the beauty of a well-put-together outfit. A suit was not just a suit. It made a bold statement, a statement that said, “I’m here, and I’m ready to take on the hardest-hitting challenges.” I realized that fashion didn’t just elevate one’s exterior beauty, but that it could make such a huge impact on one’s confidence.

This has translated to my own style. Whenever I pick my outfits, I look for pieces that will boost my attitude. I look for pieces that will lead me to think, “I’m going to conquer the day, no matter what!” The faux leather jacket from Zara that you see above is one example. From the silver zippers to the ribbed and padded sleeves, the jacket gives an outfit a polished and edgy look. The high-top sneakers I’m wearing, from Creative Recreation, also adds to my outfit’s bold look with the shoes’ eye-catching gold zippers. You can see that I love shiny zippers! I tend to complement these edgy pieces with classy and fun staples including the Zara polka-dot, button-down shown above.

Though I’m passionate about engineering, business, trying out new eateries and playing orchestral music, I can never go a day without a fashionable outfit. I am so grateful to be part of this stylish community, and I look forward to featuring incredible college student fashion! Stay tuned and stay stylish!
