WHAT TO WEAR: Winter

February 8th, 2016 at 2:00am

As Neiman Marcus once said, “Women who wear black live colorful lives.” This month’s Fashionista has encompassed the perfect balance between white and black in her winter look. The addition of the orange wallet adds a pop of color, and the grey and black boots add slight variation to the look which in turn creates a nice balance between the colors of this outfit.

The flowy white top is perfect for winter in the south! The color is a perfect winter white, but could easily be worn in the fall or spring as well. The pattern also adds texture to the look making the blouse pop more than usual, while adding a level of sophistication. By pairing the white top with a black undershirt the contrast makes the flow of the shirt stand out more than usual.

I love versatile jeans, and this Fashionista’s black jeans can be worn with just about everything. The rips add a more casual feel, but are also an added detail. The roughness of the rips also contrasts perfectly with the soft waves in the shirt.

This Fashionista opted to wear silver jewelry, but gold would be acceptable to wear with the look as well. Her use of a simple necklace and layered bracelets adds an air of sophistication to the outfit.

The gray boots in this look make the outfit a bit fancier because of the style. The gray is a great color as it gives a subtle pop to the look without taking away too much attention from the shirt, which is the focal point of the look. The gray boots are also perfect for winter in all places, and the Chelsea boot style has been a popular trend this season. The added heel gives her ensemble a fancier feel.

By pairing her orange wallet with this look, she created a perfect balance of contrast and added a great color pop. The wallet is also small enough to carry around to brunch, but noticeable enough to help complete the look. The deep orange color is also a nice transition color between fall and winter.

One Simple Change: To make this look work for a cooler climate I suggest pairing a jean jacket or black leather jacket. Another option would be to wear a sweater either in black or gray, which would complete the outfit as well.

Hi guys I’m Erica! I’m currently a sophomore at Tulane majoring in communications and minoring in business. I am from Florida, but would love to live in New York City someday. My favorite season is fall (real fall not Florida fall), I like dogs more than cats, my favorite dessert is tiramisu, and I am a huge fan of Wes Anderson movies. I have always loved fashion and am so excited to be a style guru! I mostly stick to clean lines and neutral colors, although I do love to mix in a bold print every once in awhile. I follow Song of Style (Aimee Song) and Sincerely Jules (Julie Sarinana) on Instagram and love how they incorporate simple items to create a fashionable and versatile outfit. I love shoes, especially boots, and am always trying to find boots that can be worn throughout every season. My favorite item of clothing would have to be a great pair of dark blue skinny jeans that you can dress up or down. I also am a huge fan of accessories. Sunglasses and some simple rings or bracelets can make any outfit look chic. One technique I am planning on incorporating as a style guru this semester is the use of makeup, specifically a bold lip. I also want to use nail polish as an accessory to perfect a look that pops. Chiara Ferragni, also known as The Blonde Salad, usually wears a bold red lip and wears lots of print, so I will be trying to incorporate parts of her style into some of my looks for this semester!
