WHAT TO WEAR: Internship

All internships differ when it comes to the expected daily attire, but they all consist of similar essential guidelines to keep in mind as you pick out your outfit each day. You should always do a little bit of investigative research before going in on your first day at any new job. Nothing is worse than being the new girl and standing out amongst your fellow coworkers. Also, your first day is a fresh start and the time to make your best first impression! Don’t start off on the wrong foot over a simple outfit mishap that could have been easily avoided.

An internship is all about learning new skills that can only be acquired in the workplace. It is about testing the waters and seeing if you can truly see yourself in this kind of work environment. It goes without saying, you have to dress the part to play the part. This sometimes may mean wandering out of your comfort zone and that’s okay. The three P’s to live by are polished, professional and personable. You never want your outfit to make you or any of your coworkers feel uncomfortable. Sometimes it is best to just play it safe!

I spotted this Fashionista a few days ago on my way out of class. I immediately noticed her outfit as cute, but modest. Her light wash denim shirt could have easily been dressed down, but paired with some classic black capris, it altered the entire feel of her outfit. She makes sure to avoid the risk of a super low neckline top or a questionably short skirt, but still looks comfortable and sleek. Her shoes also play a huge role in pushing her outfit right over to the professional side. The perforated pointed-toe flats add just the right amount of professionalism to this attire.

One Simple Change: Feel like this outfit is just a bit too casual for your taste? By simply changing the denim button-down for a sleek blouse you are immediately ready for an interview. Tuck the blouse in for a more polished look then trade in the backpack for a nice handbag and you are ready to land your dream job!
