WHAT TO WEAR: Cold Weather

What to Wear

Dressing for cold weather can get boring, and fast. If you wear a down jacket you risk feeling like a marshmallow on a daily basis, and black peacoats are both classy and practical but can grow old day after day. What’s a Fashionista/o to do?

As a fun alternative, I suggest a trendy military jacket like this week’s Fashionista is sporting. What’s better than finding that perfect balance between fashion and function? While it may not be the perfect jacket for an especially blustery day, when layered with cozy knits this jacket can be a great alternative to more traditional winter garb. The great news is that utility jackets come in sturdy fabric and earth tones like olive green and tan, which make them a versatile and functional piece to own (ideal for all of us on a budget).

This Fashionista topped off her trendy outerwear with skinny jeans and booties, and then added fun but warm accessories with her scarf and cozy pom pom beanie (find a similar hat here). If you’re wanting to try out a military-inspired jacket, find great options here and here.

One Simple Change: Military not your thing? No problem. Simply swap out a utility jacket for a leather jacket or colored peacoat to mix up your winter routine. The key is doing something fun with your cold-weather wear. If a new coat isn’t in your budget, (trust me, I understand) simply mix things up with a patterned or brightly colored scarf and gloves to stand out on campus and stave off winter boredom.
