WHAT TO WEAR: Class

The University of Virginia often has a reputation for being preppy. When most people think of UVA style, images of pearl necklaces and bowties come to mind. While I personally enjoy preppy styles among others, it is possible to be preppy without being dressed in head-to-toe Lilly Pulitzer. This Fashionista takes the traditional preppy style associated with UVA and puts a twist on it for a great outfit that one can wear to class or a nice lunch with friends.

This Fashionista chose a loose white top with delicate ruffles that can be versatile among many different pieces, while still adding a beautiful touch. Along the same lines, her denim shorts also have light detailing that are perfect for the upcoming warm weather while also having the ability to be paired with more statement pieces. Her outfit overall is simple and beautiful, but her accessories give her a more modern, preppy touch. The outfit as a whole is casual enough for class, but it makes a statement about your personal style.

One of my favorite trends for this spring are non traditional sunglasses. This Fashionista sports a tortoiseshell polarized pair from J.Crew that shield her eyes from the bright sun but also makes a statement. The tortoiseshell pattern is classic for sunglasses, but the blue color of the lenses stand out and make the accessory unique. The delicate gold necklace, the traditional bracelets and the simple pearl earrings show the preppy style of UVA in a way that is subtle and contemporary.

One Simple Change: On your way back from class and want to get ready for a nice dinner? Trade in your denim shorts for some colored jeans to keep the subtle preppy look.
