WHAT TO WEAR: Class

April is a weird month in Oklahoma for the fashion-forward. Spring is here, but not really here, and there’s a lot of rain (with the occasional threat of a tornado looming over one’s head every few weeks). It’s the time of the year when college students are fresh from their spring break vacations and ready to finish up the semester. With this mindset, getting dressed up for a class is usually the last thing on most students’ mind, but not this Fashionista that I came across.

She dressed in head-to-toe black, donned a statement necklace and topped her look off with a bright lip. I chose to feature this Fashionista’s outfit because. to me, it’s the college student’s version of the Little Black Dress. This is an outfit that can take you to your 9:00 a.m. class, to an interview and even to happy hour at the end of the day.

The interesting part about her look was her black tights—a simple detail many girls tend to skip over during the spring months. Tights lengthen the leg line and provide the perfect amount of coverage for the cool breeze in the evenings. Black is a color many tend to shy away from when the days start to get warmer, but this outfit is an example of how playing with texture and silhouette can offer a good foundation for building an outfit instead of focusing on color.

One Simple Change: If you want to wear an all-black outfit like this in the summer, ditch the tights and boots and throw on a pair of strappy sandals. This is an easy outfit to transition from the cool spring days to the scorching hot summer nights.
