STYLE GURU STYLE: Wardrobe Essentials

There are some items that you absolutely need to have in your closet. These pieces make up the foundation of your wardrobe. They’re the must-haves, no matter what your style, and your go-to clothes: the wardrobe essentials. Basic wardrobe essentials are vital to a person’s outfit. They add a versatile and effortless look, while remaining put together and chic.

This season, I was really inspired by Helmut Lang’s spring 2014 ready-to-wear collection to create my look. Lang’s collection redefines the wardrobe essential style for the season with sheer tops, loose pants, sleek silhouettes and loose skirts. My favorite looks showcased an easy and effortless style which is perfect for spring/summer weather. I especially loved the sheer tops and loose pants because they allow you to stay cool and comfortable during warmer weather.

Wanting to keep my attire in the category of wardrobe essentials, I created a simple, yet edgy look. I donned a leather jacket from H&M, a classic white T-shirt and black skinny jeans from Citizens of Humanity. I especially love plain T-shirts because they add simplicity to any look. Adding to my outfit, I threw on a pair of leather open-toed ankle booties and a Brandy Melville flannel to tie it all together. This outfit is very versatile and can be worn anywhere, whether it be to class or to lunch with friends.

Overall, I really love putting together simple outfits. Basic wardrobe essentials are great because you can either dress them up or down. Whenever I create an outfit, I try to find the balance between laid back and put together. Going from day to night, I always like to add statement jewelry or a bold lipstick. It adds more depth and edginess to my outfit for a night out on the town.
