STYLE GURU STYLE: The Timeless Trench

There is something about a knee-length trench coat that makes me feel like Nancy Drew and Serena Vanderwoodsen combined. And how perfect, considering I’ve read most of the sleuth books and have watched Gossip Girl more times than I can count. Tossing on a trench and cinching my waste with the matching belt instantly made me feel timeless and chic. It’s a feeling you just cannot find anywhere else—except when you’re sliding your feet into on a pair of high heels, of course. I decided to wear these two feminine accessories together and felt I should be walking the streets of Paris in 1960 with a bouquet of flowers in hand. A girl can dream, can’t she?

I have always been one of those girls with Tiffany & Co. taste on a TJ..Maxx budget. Due to this, thrift stores and vintage shops have become my best friends. Whether I am going to hunt for something specific or just going to check out the latest pieces, I am a frequent flyer and most workers welcome me with a “good to see you again, miss.” These are the stores where I have found the best items in my closet: vintage leather loafers, pearl earrings and this gorgeous trench. It blocks the rain, looks great with a black dress and goes with any occasion imaginable. A trench is a staple in any woman’s wardrobe and a classic article of clothing that will never go out of style. They have been seen gracing fashion runways for decades, and even more recently on Style.com. Burberry‘s resort 2016 line may be taking a fun, chic twist on the classic coat, but the trench will always remain slightly the same.

To keep the theme of classiness going throughout my outfit, I paired my trench with a striped, cotton top to make myself feel even more Parisian. Maybe French women don’t really wear stripes all that often, but they make me feel connected with the city due to my imagination leading to my vision of mimes on every street corner.

I paired the stripes with some white jeans, which are so much fun and airy for the summer, and some block-healed sandals. Last, of course, was some pink. This bright, girly clutch was the perfect touch to this neutral, classic and simple outfit. What is style without a few surprising and fun elements? Especially when that pop of color matches your lipstick.

Get My Look: 1. A striped cotton top, perfect for any Parisian wannabe. 2. A pop of pink. 3. A tan trench.
