STYLE GURU STYLE: The Cat’s Meow

So far, my stay in England has taught me three things: One, Pret-a-Manger croissants are everything. Two, when offered the chance to drink wine on the Thames with Polish boys, go for it. And three, every European owns a dog. Dachshunds, German shepherds, King Charles cavaliers—they are everywhere. As a self-proclaimed dog lover, this makes me miss my dog, Coconut, especially when I see West Highland White Terriers that may be his British cousins.

However, I will wear quirky cat clothing when the urge arises. Call me a fair weather cat lover, if you want. For example, this blouse from American Apparel features line drawings by Morris Charney of house cats and jaguars, which parallels the Emma Cook’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear show. The ensembles in this show consist of chiffon blouses with sketches of waterfowl, jaguars and snails—resembling the one I sport for this shoot—and forest-inspired jackets and jumpsuits. In this collection, quirkiness and high fashion collide.

I sported this outfit during a recent performance of Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar in Oxford. It provided the perfect means for me to walk to the play in comfort all the while not being under-dressed for the play. For ultimate comfort, pair a romper with slip-on sneakers. For this outfit, I opted for a pair of black sneakers that match my black romper. My blouse adds contrast to this black duo, which means that I won’t look like Wednesday Addams—not that that’s a bad thing.

Be bold this summer whether you identify as a dog or cat lover. Invest in a quirky blouse that encompasses Emma Cook’s show, and you will not go astray.

Get My Look: 1. Cat blouse. 2. Black romper. 3. Black slip-on sneakers.
