STYLE GURU STYLE: Styled To The Maxi

Vacations are the perfect time to experiment with daring and bold fashion trends. Especially if you are traveling somewhere far from home, you can try new looks without being worried about anyone seeing you again (that is, if the outfit was a flop, you now know what not to wear back home)!

The maxi skirt fad has been around for sometime now, but it is still a great essential to any Fashionista’s trip wardrobe. Whether you are driving or flying, maxis can be an ideal outfit choice not only for style but for comfort as well. They can double as both a blanket and a more fashionable alternative to sweats (plus, you can walk off the plane or long drive ready to go out and begin the vacation sightseeing).

This specific outfit I took inspiration for the 2016 resort wear collection by Sass & Bide. They showed a lot of maxi dressed paired with various styles of tops. Crops, sweaters, tanks, etc, this gave me the idea to shop within my existing wardrobe and find a runway ready look.

Taking examples from the runway show, I realized maxi skirts are also a great way to incorporate all those festival crop tops you invested in last summer! I chose to pair this black zipper-back Forever XXI crop top I wore to Spring Awakening last year with a bold, printed maxi skirt. I like combos like this because they make a full maxi dress look, which is also a major summer staple. No look is complete without the proper accessories, so I added a fedora, sunglasses and of course some silver jewelry for accents (as well as some NYC butter gloss in Maple Blondie, because when is that ever not in my purse essentials?).

Along with this whole ensemble, I chose to add some black wedge sandals, mainly to keep the skirt from dragging on the ground but also to create the finishing touch to the look. Maxi skirts and dresses never go out of style; so yes, they are a classic in the current fashion world, but they can always be revamped to a modern outfit that is sure to max out any doubts that your look is anything but fabulous!
