STYLE GURU STYLE: Preppy-Chic

My inspiration for this particular outfit was inspired by the J.Crew fall 2016 ready-to-wear collection. This show featured many preppy, every-day wear outfits. Each look was unique and represented a different type of style, ranging from bohemian, rebel-chic to straight-up preppy. J.Crew is known for their very form-fitting, collared shirt, preppy type of clothing. Although this show makes preppy-chic due to how they style the different skirts, shirts and dresses. Making a preppy shirt look chic can be difficult at times, but J.Crew did it with class and style. The show had a very rebellious feel, differing from many of their other collections.

I translated the show’s collection into my own unique style through my pairing of the popular brand’s jean collared shirt with some Western white booties. The look is great for both the fall and spring. Both seasons require some layering due to the combination of coolness and warmth, so throwing together a nice button-down and a pair of leggings is perfect for the weather. The collared button down is a classic, but I wanted to make it appear different, much like the ready-to-wear show did. I made the look of the preppy collared shirt a tad more edgy by matching it with a brown leather jacket. I thought that both the booties and jacket gave the look a more rebellious feel. The boots also had somewhat of a western look, which made the style even more unique. The different combination of styles helped to make my look distinct and memorable, much like the show.

Get My Look: 1. Button-down shirt. 2. Western booties. 3. Leather jacket.
