STYLE GURU STYLE: Neo-preen Yourself

Utilitarian attire has been used in fashion design forever; there is something about practicality and structure that can tie together an outfit perfectly for any occasion. A structured jacket or harshly pleated pants can add detail to an outfit without jeopardizing elegance. In Kaufmanfrano resort 2016 collection, there is a usage of tight fabrics and boxy cuts in order to combine form and function. Translating these intense looks to an everyday outfit can be easily done with the right pieces and accessories.

Take a single piece from the Kaufmanfranco line, like any neoprene article, and make it the statement piece. While the designers chose to match similar pieces, I’ve decided to take a snippet of inspiration and make it a personal look for me. I’ve paired the neoprene tank with a denim jacket and high-waisted shorts for a monochrome Canadian tuxedo. Monochromatic design is integral to this collection, which is why I stuck with only gold metals and makeup that compliments the outfit’s palette—a gold eye shadow look matched with an on-trend burgundy lipstick.

I wore this outfit to a concert later that night and I found that the cleanliness of the neoprene kept my look both elegant and still casual. I aimed to find elements that fell under this category of both chic and sporty. My small leather backpack was practical but added attitude to my look with it’s minimal design and gold detailing, while my black and white rubber platforms were easy to walk in and still an edgy statement. It’s all about finding balanced statement pieces to make your look monochromatically effortless, even in heavy fabrics and structured materials.

Get My Look: 1. A scuba neoprene crop top. 2. Denim shorts. 3. A fancy backpack. 4. Gold details.
