STYLE GURU STYLE: Modern Victorian

Anyone who knows me knows my closet is a sea of black and white. I’m not ashamed to say that it stays that way throughout the summer. My love for simple yet elegant style meant I was instantly inspired by the Wendy Nichol spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection. It’s the perfect combo of black and white, mixed with frilly lace to give it a bohemian feel. Everything about this line says ethereal and Victorian, with a hint of gothic.

Wendy Nichol’s collection took a boho approach to Victorian style. I could easily see Look five or Look four being worn at Coachella. While I love this twist on Victorian fashion, it’s not really easily wearable off the runway.

I took influence from look nine. This collection was all about taking simple, vintage inspired pieces and making them feel boho and trendy. I definitely took a more modern approach to this look then Nichol, and I tried to incorporate more oversized, casual pieces.

My dress is from Urban Outfitters, and I seriously recommend a tank dress to everyone. It’s gotten me through so many “What do I wear?” moments. It’s a casual spin on a little black dress that everyone can wear and personalize. I kept my outfit modern with a simple, masculine but classic watch from Daniel Wellington. My favorite part of my outfit are my Zara patent leather boots. I adore these boots because they remind me of Miu Miu shoes but are so much more affordable. I kept my makeup simple: winged eyeliner and a MAC lip liner.

This is a super easy look to incorporate into your wardrobe. It’s stylish and edgy but still very wearable for different events. Because this look plays off of simple yet elegant pieces, each item can be styled in so many different ways. Versatility never hurt anyone’s wardrobe!
