STYLE GURU STYLE: Mad For Plaid

Anyone with Internet access has seen the grungy looks that Kylie Jenner has been sporting lately. From her distressed jeans and crop tops to plaid mini skirts and combat boots, it’s clear that the girl has style. I’ve always been a fan of the grunge trend, but because I have a more feminine style, I never thought I could pull off the trend.

So I was thrilled when I saw the girly-meets-grunge aesthetic of the 3.1 Philip Lim fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection. The show was filled with luxurious fabrics, menswear-inspired pieces, leather accents and rich colors. I was especially impressed by the looks that combined different textures, and because plaid is my favorite fall/winter trend, I was especially drawn to this look. While the model’s sleek leather jacket and graphic T-shirt are incredibly chic, the plaid piece is what really stood out to me (as well as the bold lip color).

I decided to put my own feminine spin on this grungy look. I paired my oversized plaid scarf with my favorite black peacoat and a pair of black gloves with faux leather bow details. I wanted to complete the look with a bold lip color like the Philip Lim model, so I swiped on some matte pink lipstick (I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t also inspired by the bold lip colors that Britt Nilsson rocked during this season of The Bachelor). The 3.1 Philip Lim show really evokes the girly-meets-grunge style, and I’m sure it will inspire other Fashionistas to take on this major fall/winter trend as well.

Get My Look: 1. A red plaid scarf. 2. A pair of black bow gloves. 3. A bold lip color.
