STYLE GURU STYLE: Fashion Weekend Monterrey

Summer is finally here! College students get their well-deserved break before continuing their studies next semester. People are getting ready to travel, complete their internships and simply have a good time with friends. With all this free time, there are many social events we can go to.

I recently took a fashion styling workshop at Istituto di Moda Burgo campus Monterrey. It was an amazing experience, and luckily we were given the opportunity to purchase tickets for the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Weekend Monterrey. The event lasted two days with a variety of activities that celebrated the fashion industry in Mexico. The first day, we got to attend the runway shows in which we could appreciate the designers’ collections. Then, during the second day we were able to attend a brunch, where a trunk show and a meet and greet was held. The designers that were involved in this event were Lorena Saravia, Alejandro Carlín, Pineda Covalín and Ángel Sánchez. Fashion Weekend Monterrey was sponsored by Heineken and had a purpose to support the pink cross in México, which is dedicated to help women who are battling cancer. I was really excited about this event, so I decided that I’d share a bit about the outfit I wore for the brunch. Even though summer has just begun, I was inspired by a look from a fall collection. Recently, I came across a look from the alice + olivia fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection, and I absolutely fell in love with it. It had a voluminous skirt, a crop top and a jacket. The main fabric used had a floral print.

As you can see, I wore a floral midi skirt to keep the vibe of the original inspiration. It was very exciting to wear this item because I felt it was perfect for summer. Also, it was a very stylish piece that could work very well for an event like Fashion Weekend. I paired this skirt with a white bodycon bandeau, a black cropped jacket and heeled sandals. Wearing the black skirt with another color allowed the look to fit the daytime atmosphere of the event. To accessorize this look, I wore a pearl statement necklace and matching earrings. This made the outfit seem a bit more formal. I also wore a red leather Coach handbag and my black Prada sunglasses with scroll detailing on the temples. The sunglasses were a fun element to add to the mix because I felt that it was a piece that stood out and gave an extra edge to the look.

I’m sure this is one of the most memorable events I’ll attend during my life. I got to meet designers, bloggers and many fellow Fashionistas. I would definitely recommend anyone go to these types of events if you have the chance. Check out the event’s pictures on social media, or look for the hashtag #MBFWMX.
