STYLE GURU STYLE: Falling into Place

Despite the summer heat, Fashionistas are gaining inspiration from pre-fall and fall collections to gear up for back to school. Pre-fall collections are smaller in size and may consist of more subtle or mainstream styling. However, these collections tie together the summer and fall months by offering a glimpse into upcoming collections with basic, lightweight layering. For August I have been looking at pre-fall collections by labels including Band of Outsiders and Madewell. Both brands make their own spin on classic pieces season to season. For fall, I was drawn to their casual, yet sleek and sophisticated styling of classics including denim, button-downs, tailored trousers and outerwear.

This look was directly inspired by the first look of Band of Outsiders’ pre-fall 2015 collection. This first look consists of a light blue button-down tucked into a pair of light washed denim pants and is topped with a fitted, black suede blazer. This look’s tailoring, monochromatic effect and light layers really inspired me to come up with a similar outfit. Instead of a classic button-down, I chose a lightweight checkered popover shirt, inspired by the heavy use of plaid throughout Madewell’s collection. I also switched the tailored pants with distressed boyjeans, a staple piece from this summer. I finished the look with a loose-fitting black blazer and slip-on sandals. These pieces are more appropriate options for the summer heat and humidity while still accomplishing the brand’s pre-fall aesthetic.

Get My Look: 1. A great pair of jeans. 2. A boyfriend-inspired shirt. 3. A simple blazer.
