STYLE GURU STYLE: Falling for Floral

If you were to slide my white-paneled closet door open, you are most likely to find tons of plain prints mostly in white or navy. However, there is one print you will find popping up more than once in my closet: florals. Whether it be a dress, skirt or blouse, I love to keep my closet stocked with floral pieces, especially during the spring and summer seasons. I can’t point my finger on it, but there is something about the print that is very delicate and feminine.

Being new to the realm of designer runway shows, I was both amazed and overwhelmed by how many runway shows there was to choose from. I mean, the designers seemed to be endless! I stuck to what I knew from my time working at Neiman Marcus, who happens to sell clothing from many of the designers featured on Style.com. I’m not sure what exactly I was looking for, but when I clicked on Rebecca Taylor’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection, I felt as if I were falling in love with florals. The review of the fashion show really struck me, especially the description of a Rebecca Taylor girl: “”she’s a romantic, and she loves fragile beauty.”” In reading those lines, I knew I had to browse her spring collection. After clicking through all 40 photos, I found myself going through the entire show a second time and a third time; it was one of the only fashion shows I felt I could relate to.

And so, taking inspiration from Rebecca Taylor’s spring collection and pre-fall 2015 collection, I combined floral and plain prints, which are both comfort styles of mine. I noticed that Taylor’s pre-fall collection had quite a few white pieces, and so I made sure to incorporate that in my outfit. I am the kind of girl that likes to dress up more than dress down, so I felt that it would be appropriate to show that off here.

My outfit features a floral blouse from Rebecca Taylor’s own brand including shades of periwinkle, white and yellow. I paired the blouse with white cotton pants and white sandals. To complete the look, I added an ivory flower necklace and light pink lipstick to achieve the same ethereal, romantic look that Taylor was going for in her runway collections.

Florals in almost any pattern or color can be a girl’s dream, no matter what you are pairing it with. A tucked-in chiffon blouse and white pants is a hot summer staple you can wear on a casual afternoon out with friends or even on a romantic date night out. Regardless of how you wear it, you will be guaranteed to look and feel beautiful every time.
