STYLE GURU STYLE: Childlike Innocence

While reviewing the current collections, I came across Mother of Pearl’s resort 2016 lookbook. This collection was reminiscent of my childhood days and as I write this post, the phrase “what’s old is new again” never made more sense. I think that I wore this same exact outfit when I was a child. There is something so fun and free about dressing up like your younger self. Looking back at old childhood photos, it was clear, if I liked something I would wear it, whether it matched or not.

Mother of Pearl’s 2016 resort collection was filled with innocent silhouettes and charming prints and the entire look was right up my alley. However, the use of socks is what really caught my attention as the looks are all very grown-up and sophisticated. The socks paired with sandals and sneakers give each of the outfits a more youthful vibe.

For my outfit I wore an easy and light linen babydoll styled dress as I like the length and somewhat boxy silhouette of the dress. The Mother of Pearl collection shows a number of longer dresses paired with the socks and shoes, which if you are like me may not work. I am on the shorter side and my legs are even shorter. I had to balance the proportion of the dress with the proportion of my socks so I didn’t cut off too much of my legs. I paired my white socks with my white (or use to be nice and white) Superga sneakers. I love these shoes so much and wear them almost everyday and they are a great summertime sneaker.

I topped off my look with a light wash jean jacket that matches the vertical and horizontal stripes on my dress. Since this is a pretty basic and muted color palette, I added a bright orange wrap and a leather clutch to make this look stand out a little more. The wise Anna Wintour once said, and I quote, “Why fit in, when you were born to stand out?”.

Get My Look: 1. Jean jacket. 2. Babydoll dress. 3. White sneakers.
