STYLE GURU STYLE: Bomber Jacket Kinda Monday

rag & bone speaks my vocabulary; oversized, muted tones, yet structured clothing. The designers behind this casual language of comfortable wear exhibited these type of looks in their fall 2016 ready-to-wear collection. Bomber jackets spoke for themselves and cool is the word these jackets expressed. I was immediately attracted to them as they looked so effortless. They are easy to style, which is a good thing, especially when I’m running late to class on a Monday. Nonetheless, their sporty look is perfect for this type of situation when I’m on the go.

I translated this bomber jacket into my outfit by making it the statement piece. The wine color is quite eye-catching which naturally made me gravitate towards black items. Keeping in mind the rag & bone oversized feel, I wore my favorite mock turtleneck sweater that says New York City. I’ve been wearing it a lot recently because it’s super comfortable and warm. I like it because the white text delivers a nice contrast to the overall darkness of the look. To keep things simple, I paired the outfit with black skinny jeans and my faithful pointed boots. I always receive compliments when I wear this jacket so I know it’s never a bad decision to put on. It’s quickly becoming like my second skin.

Bomber jackets communicate differently. There are plain ones that speak of simplicity, there are silk ones that speak of elegance, there are leather ones that speak of toughness or there are satin ones with gorgeous oriental prints that speak of traditions. We the clients get to style them according to what we want our look to say that day. My intention was to simply wear whatever was quick to put on and head out the door as soon as possible. I must confess I was late to French class that day. I just hope my outfit didn’t articulate my rushed morning when I walked into the classroom!

Get My Look: 1. Statement bomber jacket. 2. Oversized sweatshirt or crew neck. 3. Pointed black boots.
